For co-existence, (bio)diversity and justice in conservation

Philip Samura

Philip A. Samura is a Sierra Leonean pursuing a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Environment, Society, and Sustainability at the University of Cape Town. He holds a B.A. (Honours) in Global Challenges from the African Leadership University (ALU).

He is passionate about forest management, and his research interests lie in the interactions between humans and the environment. His undergraduate project focused on forest dependency and its implications for sustainable forest management. His MPhil thesis explores how colonial legacies shape contemporary forest management in Sierra Leone. He aims to develop pathways towards decolonial interventions that reconnect rather than separate local communities from forest resources.
